Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), with a beautiful campus located in Wuhan, Hubei, is one of the top ten universities in China.

HUST is a comprehensive university with a rapid development. The university has an array of key disciplines among the best ones in China, including laser technology, numerical control, moulds technology, intellectual manufacturing, optimum design and CAD. Thus, the university has become one of the key institutions for education and research in China. The number of papers published in academic journals by the HUST faculty and students ranked the first among all universities in China from 1993 to 1995 and the second from 1996-1998. In 1997, the former HUST was 8th in the Appraisal of Research and Development Achievement of China's Universities; in 1998, it ranked 7th on the list of China's University Appraisal and 5th in the year of 2000. Professionals in higher education consider HUST the epitome of the higher education of the New China.

HUST offers a variety of degree programs, including 59 undergraduate programs, 149 master's programs, 92 doctoral programs and 17 post-doctoral training centers. A number of other leading research centers are also housed here, namely, 3 National Engineering Research Centers, 5 National Leading Laboratories, 3 National Specialized Laboratories. All these research facilities have laid a sound foundation for the change from a multi-disciplinary university into a comprehensive one. The new HUST after a merge with Tongji Medical University has more than 10,000 faculty members, of whom over 4,000 are full-time teachers, 13 are academicians of CAS and /or CAE, over 700 are full professors, and more than 1,300 are associate professors. The number of resident students in the campus is over 40,000, of whom more than 8,000 are graduate students.

Houston is home to the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world, including more than 14 medical institutions including medical schools, hospitals and research institutions. It is also home to many businesses including corporate headquarters for 18 of the Fortune 500 companies, such as Continental Airline, Compaq Computer, BMC Software, Conoco, Reliant Energy.
