The Department of Bioengineering (BE) in HUST was founded in 1981. It was one of the earliest Bio(medical) Engineering Departments established in China. All the students and faculties were and still are very proud at this point. The spirit of the Department was to absorb a small group of talented young people and to make them excellent scientists and engineers in the near future.

This Department has been headed by Professor Wang Junjian since its establishment. To know the Department, you have to know a little bit more about the Head. Professor Wang Junjian graduated from Wuhan University in 1950s (you have to ask himself for the exact year) majoring in automobile manufactoring and worked in the Department of Mechanics at HUST thereafter. He considered the set up of BE-HUST a big accomplishment of himself. On the first day of each new academic year, Professor Wang gives a wellcome lecture to the new students, in which he emphasizes the proud of becoming a head of BE from an automobile major, and encourages the students to start new area of study as much as possible during their lifetime.

This spirit might explain the diversity of the alumni from BE-HUST. Within our small body of alumni, there're biologist, botanist, neuroscientist, pharmacologist, physiologist, electrical engineer, computer softwell engineer, as well as business manager and consultant, etc. (You name it.)

If you want to do something unexpectedly in the future, come and join the BE-HUST.

Attn: BE-HUST Alumni readers
Please add whatever you think is necessary to fully describe the BE-HUST.

The Department is now chaired by Professor Lin Jia-rui, a specialist in biomedical instrumentation. (Yidao Cai)
