HUST-Michigan Calls for Donations to Dr. Wu Ya's Memorial Fund

Dr. WU Ya, a distinguished professor of Mechanical Engineering of Huazhong
University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China, died in a
tragic traffic accident on Dec. 25, 1999 near Los Angeles, CA. Her
daughter, LEI Yin was fatally injured in the accident, and died on Dec.
31, 1999.

Dr. WU Ya was a graduate of 1978, and soon became a faculty member in the
Mechanical Engineering of HUST. She later received a Ph.D. in 1991 and
was promoted to a full professorship soon after due to her outstanding
contributions to the computer-aided manufacturing and artificial
intelligent applications in China. She was the director of Institute of
Information and Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering in HUST, and a
Distinguished University Professor. Dr. WU joined, as a visiting scholar,
the University of Windsor, Canada, in 1994, and later joined a
now-subsidiary of Federal-Mogul Corp, as a research engineer.

Dr. WU's daughter, LEI Yin (Jessie), was a freshman at the University of
Toronto, Canada, having received many awards for her excellence in
academic achievement, particularly in mathematics. She was the only child
of WU Ya and Mr. LEI Yuanxue.

Among injured in the accident were Mr. LEI Yuanxue, mother, brother, and
sister-in-law. Mr. LEI Yuanxue, WU Ya's husband, has gradually recovered
from the physical injury, but has since emotionally suffered gravely. Mr.
LEI is also a professor in HUST and an engineer at Federal-Mogul Corp.

According to Dr. WU's wish, her remains will be buried in Windsor and in
Wuhan, China. The funeral services are currently under arrangement by
Chinese Association of Greater Windsor. The date and time will be
announced shortly after the cremation of the bodies in California.

Mr. LEI would like to express his sincere gratitude to many of our alumni
all over the States who have expressed their condolence to Mr. LEI, and he
would like to particularly thank the HUST alumni in Greater Los Angeles
for the help during the last days of LEI Yin in the emergency care.

Many of our alumni have expressed their condolence through various
channels, and would like to make donations in memory of Dr. WU Ya and LEI
Yin. After consulting with Dr. WU's family, the HUST-Michigan Alumni
Association has set up an account to accept the donations from our alumni
and friends. For HUST alumni, please make your donation in checks and
mail to:

Ya Wu and Jessie Lei Memorial Fund/CAGD Foundation
(Note: Use 2 lines to write the fund name in your check)

Mr. LEI Yuanxue to partially cover funeral expenses and the medical bills
of Dr. WU's mother. Mr. LEI has expressed that he will donate the unused
portion to a Chinese-concern charity in WU Ya's name.
