There are quite a few Chinese students and scholars arriving in Houston from New Orleans in the past few days. They are temporarily settled down in unfurnished rooms. 2) Volunteers are Needed at Astrodome:

Please check the attached article by Xinhua. CAPST's next effort is to be volunteers at Astrodome on 9/11/05, Sunday starting 2:00pm. All CAPST and
non-CAPST members are welcome to join this event.

卡特里娜飓风发威六天之后，从新奥良市迁移到休斯敦并临时居住在休斯敦的运动场和集会厅等地的人数已经达到24,900人。除1,300人居住在乔治布朗集会厅以外，其余的21,600人都居住在太空体育馆的三个大型建筑中。事实上，这里已经形成了城中之城。在这座人口密度极高的城中之城里，日常生活的方方面面都有待于改善。从穿衣吃饭的准备工作到基本的医疗服务，各个方面都需要大量的义工。

中国旅美专家协会的两位前会长廖仲星医生和孙远慧博士在九月四日都到达了太空中心。廖仲星医生作为医疗组的义工在那里工作了十个小时，为灾民们提供医务服务。为了帮助各位将去做义工的朋友们更加有效地利用时间，现将他们所了解的，在太空中心做义工的过程介绍如下：
1．如果驾车前往，为了避免交通堵塞，不要从610高速公路到Kirby，而是从太空中心北面（即从Main Street到Kirby)到达太空中心。将车停在Reliant 体育馆的停车场。
2．在Reliant体育馆的二楼的义工注册处（Volunteer Check In）登记。义工在这里将被分配到医疗组和非医疗组。
3．初次到达的义工将通过小小的培训，然后再进入工作行列。
4．根据组内负责人的要求，从事指定的工作。
5．工作时间的长短视个人情况而定。非医疗组的义工工作时间一般不超过八小时，医务人员的时间不超过十小时。
6．医疗人员在登记时必须出示行医的执照。如果有这方面的问题，可以向廖仲星医生询问。她的电子邮件地址是：zliao @ mdanderson . org。
